National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921. Students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.8 or higher by the first half of their sophomore year to be eligible. Students may not apply for membership; selection for membership is based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character. After induction, a student must maintain a 3.8+ cumulative average. It is also recommended that the candidate have no behavior referrals, especially those involving disrespecting others and/or violence.  The principal and disciplinarian approve all candidates. NHS or BETA Club students who transfer from another school may become members of the CHS National Honor Society if the club receives a letter from the previous school stating that the student was in good standing when leaving the school. A NHS member who remains active will have the distinct honor of wearing an Honor Society stole at graduation.
